Building Literacy in Science
The new Illinois Learning Standards for Science require students to read challenging, complex texts to gain insights, evaluate information, broaden perspectives and write logical arguments based on substantive claims, sound reasoning, and relevant evidence. This course provides both the rationale for using disciplinary literacy to comprenend the concepts of science as well as effective, research-based, brain compatible strategies that are effective in science classrooms.
